About The Ledger
Uniontown Is a Treasure Chest. We Just Had to Grow Up Enough to See It.
The Uniontown Ledger is being built by Uniontown-born people who grew up here, lived with the city, and slowly realized how much history was sitting right in front of us.
It is common now to hear people talk down on Uniontown. Some of us absorbed that way of thinking at one time too. But the older we got, the more we noticed the records, buildings, families, streets, businesses, churches, cemeteries, stories, and people that have been here for generations.
There is more here than the easy jokes. There is a long human record full of work, conflict, survival, imagination, loss, achievement, and memory. The Uniontown Ledger exists to bring that record back into public view.
We love data, information, and preservation. In an age where it is harder to trust what we see, we believe one of the most important services people can offer their own communities is to collect, organize, preserve, and share what can still be known.
We are starting in our hometown because Uniontown has something worth preserving and building upon. We want to engage with the community, create better awareness of what is here, and help local people see each other more clearly.
We also believe local money and attention should circulate close to home whenever possible. Big companies have drowned out many small shops and local voices. The more light we put on each heartbeat in the community, the better chance those people and places have to be remembered, supported, and carried forward.
